Impotence Causes
The cause of Impotence can be caused by many different
factors including psychological and physical ingredients.
In general, the
causes of male Impotence are classified
according to whether the cause has to do with a bodily
organ or if psychogenic mental factors are involved.
Trauma, surgical procedures, diseases, medications or
nutritional status can affect erectile function by altering the
hormonal, nervous and/or vascular systems. Sometimes,
their maybe more then one cause for Impotence in some
men. In additional to this, male Impotence problems often
cause and produce a significant emotional and
psychological reactions in many males. This creates a
pattern of stress and anxiety that can further interfere with
normal and regular sexual behavior. This "performance
anxiety" should be recognized by your doctor because this
can interfere with treatment if not addressed properly.
Almost any medical condition can affect and cause erectile
problems in males. A disease changes normal bodily
function by altering the hormonal, nervous, or vascular
systems. Any various medical conditions may produce a
change in the smooth muscle tissue of the penis and/or
influence mood and behavior.

Other Possible Impotence Causes

In men older than 50 years old, vascular diseases account
for nearly half of all causes and cases of Impotence.
Vascular disease includes atherosclerosis, which is fatty
deposits on the walls of arteries. This is also called
hardening of the arteries. Men which Impotence tend to
also have other vascular diseases such a history of heart
attacks, peripheral vascular disease, problems with blood
circulation and high blood pressure. A prolonged smoking
habit is also considered an important risk and cause factor
for Impotence because it is associated with poor
circulation and reduced blood flow including blood flow to
the penis. Another potential factor in the development
and/or cause of male Impotence is trauma to the pelvic
blood vessels and nerves. Bicycle riding for long periods
of time has been implicated. Because of this, many
manufacturers are now producing bicycle seats that have
been designed to soften pressure on the perineum, which
is the soft area between the anus and the scrotum. Other
prescription medications used to treat other medical
disorders may also have side effects and may cause and
contribute to male Impotence . For some men, Impotence
may simple develop with age and/or may be related to
depression or another psychological cause, such as
widower syndrome.

Physician Diagnosis of Impotence Causes

Make sure to schedule sufficient time with your physician
to conduct a thorough interview and physical examination.
The first step in the medical management of Impotence is
taking a full medical, sexual and psychosocial history.
Trying to understand the causes of Impotence is a
sensitive topic and your physician should make you
comfortable about sharing these intimate details of your
private life. A medical and physical examination will be
necessary. The doctor will focus their attention to your
genitals, vascular and urinary systems. Because recent
studies have demonstrated a connection between high
blood pressure and Impotence, your blood pressure will be
checked and monitored. This medical examination will
confirm your medical history information and will help
reveal unsuspected disorders such as vascular disease,
diabetes, penile plaques which is scar tissue or firm lumps
under the skin of the penis. Other disorders may also
include testicular problems, low hormone production and
injury or disease to the nerves of the penis and prostate.
