The FDA Approved a Third Drug Named
Cialis To Treat Impotence

The Food and Drug Administration has approved Cialis
(tadalafil) which is a oral medication to treat Impotence in
men. This is the third oral product approved for Impotence.
Cialis is different than the other currently approved
Impotence medications mainly because it stays and works
in the body longer. Cialis acts by relaxing muscles in the
penis and blood vessels which allows increased blood flow
into the penis producing an erection. Cialis was evaluated
in placebo controlled randomized trials involving more than
4,000 Impotence affected men. Cialis effectiveness was
assessed using a sexual function questionnaire on the
effects. Additionally, patients were asked to report if they
were able to achieve an erection sufficient enough for
intercourse and also if their erection was maintained to
allow full completion of intercourse. In all of these
Impotence trials, Cialis improved the men's ability to
achieve and maintain an erection.

Cialis Facts

The recommended starting dose of Cialis for most
patients is 10mg taken 30-60 minutes prior to anticipated
sexual activity. A higher dose of 20mg is available for
Impotence patients whose response to the 10mg dose is
not adequate. Cialis should not be used more than once
per day. Cialis should also not be used with nitrates, such
as nitroglycerin tablets and patches or with an alpha
blocker. Alpha blockers are medicines used to treat
benign prostatic hyperplasia and high blood pressure.
Combining Cialis and alpha blockers may significantly
lower blood pressure and lead to fainting or even death in
some men. Because some prescription drugs affect the
metabolism of Cialis, patients should inform their physician
that they are taking Cialis to treat Impotence. For example,
patients taking ketoconazole or ritonoavir should not take
more than a 10mg dose of Cialis once every 72 hours. In
most men, after taking a single dose of Cialis, some of the
drug will remain in the body for more than 2 days. In those
with decreased kidney function, taking certain medications
( ketoconazole or ritonavir ) or have an impairment of the
liver - Cialis can remain in the body longer. For those with
moderately or severely decreased kidney function, the
starting dose of Cialis is 5mg taken once daily. In this
group, the dose may be raised to 10mg taken once every
48 hours. Patients with mild or moderate liver impairment,
the maximum dose of Cialis is 10mg.

Cialis should not be taken by men with a cardiovascular
issue or a heart condition. Impotence patients should
inform their doctor about any heart problems that they have
experienced before taking Cialis. Cialis is not
recommended in patients who have suffered a heart attack
or stroke within the last six months or Impotence patients
who have very low blood pressure or very high blood
pressure or retinitis pigmentosa, which is a eye disorder.
The most common side effects of Cialis in clinical trials
included back pain, muscle aches, flushing, headache,
indigestion and stuffy or runny nose. Patients who get back
pain and muscle aches usually get it 12 to 24 hours after
taking Cialis and these usually go away by themselves
within 48 hours. A small number of patients taking Cialis
also reported abnormal vision. Before taking Cialis,
patients are advised to undergo a thorough medical history
and physical examination to attempt to diagnose the
underlying cause of the ED and to identify appropriate
treatment.

Have Realistic Expectations

Medications such as Cialis won't make you feel like you're
20 again, but it can help you achieve satisfying sexual
relations more often. Be willing to work with your physician
to find which prescription drug and dosage best works for
you. For some men, Cialis is not a safe or effective choice.
Other treatment options for Impotence may work. These
include medications and treatments that are injected into
the penis or put into the urethra before sex, penis pumps,
vacuum constriction devices and penile implants.
